School Safety Update from the WV Department of Education
Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security Rob Cunningham, and Director of Safety and Tiered Support Systems of the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) Jonah Adkins address the recent unprecedented number of school threats in West Virginia in this week's video. They also share important information for families, including free resources available to support the social-emotional and mental health needs of children. Taylor County Healthy Grandfamilies will host our first session in just one week! If you are a grandparent raising your grandchild or grandchildren and would like more information, please attend! This session will focus on navigating the school system. We will be meeting in the Mary Battle Studio from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. You will have to sign in with a photo id, but you can do that at the Mary Battle Studio entrance now also! WV School Attendance Law
Taylor County's Healthy Grandfamilies program will host our first session, Navigating the School System, on September 24, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Mary Battle Studio at Grafton High School. You will have to sign in with a photo id at the front office. This is a new security procedure for all school visitors.
Light refreshments will be provided.
The Healthy Grandfamilies is a free initiative sponsored by WV State University. This program provides information and resources through a series of discussion groups and follow-up services for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. If you are interested in finding out more, please join us for a Meet and Greet on September 5, 2024 from 10-11am or 1-2pm in the Mary Battle Studio at Grafton High School.

The Community in Schools annual Back to School Bash was held on Friday, August 16th at Grafton High School. School supplies, books, and other materials were distributed to families. A HUGE thank you to our Community in Schools Site Coordinators, students and families, and community partners for making this event a success!
The 2024-2025 school year kicked off today with a Welcome Back event for our teachers and staff. All employees gathered at Grafton High School to hear a message from Superintendent Dr. John Stallings that featured the welcoming of our new staff and celebrating the years of service for those returning. Thank you to Leer Mine for providing the refreshments for the event!
We look forward to seeing our students in grades 1-12 on Thursday, August 22nd!
