It is our pleasure to work with you during the special education process. As you have questions, suggestions, or concerns about any part of the process, please let us know.

Special education is providing specially designed instruction to students with exceptionalities to meet their needs to enable them to master the curriculum. Special education focuses on a student's strengths while supporting their weaknesses. Each child is different and therefore the educational plan is individualized.


Student Assistance Teams
Student Assistance Teams (SAT) provide support for general education students who are struggling with academics, behavior, or attendance.


Special Education Eligibility Process
The following information is intended to clarify the purpose, rationale and responsibilities involved in the pre-referral process for responding to the needs of students suspected of having learning difficulties.


Individualized Education Program (IEP)
An Individualized Education Program, IEP, is a written statement which defines appropriate education for the individual student.


Testing Information
Information on including students with disabilities in state and district testing and information on special education evaluations.
Response to Intervention (RtI)
Response to Intervention (RtI) refers to a new model for identifying students as learning disabled based on his or her response to scientific based interventions.
Positive Behavior Supports (PBS)
PBS is a proactive systems approach to preventing and responding to classroom and school discipline problems.
Continuous Improvement Focused Monitoring Process (CIFMP)
The West Virginia Continuous Improvement Focused Monitoring Process provides local districts with a systemic approach to improving local efforts to positively affect results for children with exceptionalities.
